An important role in Jonathan Barnbrook’s rapid rise to fame was played by the appearance of his works in Rick Poynor’s book Typography Now (1991), an influential survey of typographic tendencies at the beginning of the digital era. Barnbrook’s bastard typefaces and early experiments with text composition provided excellent support to Poynor’s thesis of the appearance of a graphic language the global expansion of which was spurred by the new digital tools.
